SUMMER SHOW SUPPLEMENT
NY Beef Center to Host Clipping Demonstration
The New York Beef Industry Center will offer the best and latest information on beef cattle production, the popular cattle handling demonstrations, and a new cattle clipping demonstration.
The new cattle clipping demonstration will be held in the Beef Industry tent at 12:30 p.m. each day. Experts in fitting cattle for show will demonstrate with a live animal the proper clipping techniques to bring out the best traits of the animal for the show ring or to prepare the animal for sale. These demonstrations are a great opportunity to pick up fitting tips before a county show or state fair competition.
Visitors to the live cattle breeds display at the New York Beef Industry Center can chat with producers and gather information and resources on the major beef breeds, including Angus, Red Angus, Hereford, Charolais, Limousin, Simmental, South Devon and White Park.
The New York Beef Industry Council exhibit provides information on the Beef Quality Assurance Program, which is a combination of technology, common sense, a concern for animal well-being, and a consumer-oriented production system. Beef producers can enroll and learn what is required to become a BQA Certified Producer.
The exhibit will highlight how Beef Checkoff dollars work to increase demand through programs with health professionals, retailers and consumers. Plenty of beef recipe brochures will be available for the family chef to take home.
The NY Beef Producer's Association display offers opportunities to connect with other beef producers through membership in the association, as well as programs and sales to help market beef cattle in New York.
Another new addition for beef producers at Empire Farm Days in 2013 is demonstrations of the Bud Box lower-stress system of cattle handling that can be incorporated as part of a cattle handling facility. Cornell University Beef Extension Specialist Dr. Mike Baker will work with live cattle daily at 11:30 a.m. near the New York Beef Industry Center.
