The Island Pond Maple Factory, an affiliate of Les Industries Bernard et Fils of Saint-Victor, Quebec, is open for business. Located in Island Pond, Vt., the company started to receive bulk maple syrup in January at its 15,000-square-foot warehousing and grading facility. For those sugar makers who still have syrup left over from the record crop of 2013, the arrival of a new major bulk maple syrup buyer in the Northeast can be nothing but good news.
The rapid growth and important growth potential of the maple syrup supply in the U.S. is what motivated the company to set up its operations in Vermont. The company, through its initial investment in warehousing and projected investments into processing, is here to stay. During the next three years, the Island Pond Maple Factory will be looking to contract its bulk syrup needs to over 150 sugar makers.
Services offered to sugar makers will include long-term purchasing contracts, syrup purchasing and delivery options, supplying drums and expansion financing.
